Teaching the holocaust using sports
Today we launched a new free educational resource produced by the Holocaust Educational Trust in partnership with The Football Association entitled Introduction to the Holocaust: Footballers Remember. The resource was officially launched this afternoon at Park High School in Middlesex. David Bernstein, the Chairman of the FA was in attendance to see the resource demonstrated in a lesson format.
Following the visit, HET and The FA developed the idea of collaborating to produce a resource that could assist teachers in educating young people about the Holocaust and this DVD with accompanying lessons plans, featuring prominent England players, discussing why they feel it is important to learn about our shared history, is the result of that collaboration.
Schools will also receive a supplementary CD Rom which will include lesson plans and supporting materials for teachers to aid them in the classroom when teaching the Holocaust, part of the National Curriculum for Key Stage 3 students year olds. Sign up for our email updates and Newsletter.
Sports can be used as a means to bridge the gulf between the Holocaust as a massive historical event and the Holocaust as a human story.
